Got everything clean and put together. Finalized the recipe. The starter is good to go. Poured my mash water into the Foundry and lowered in the grain basket. Flipped on the power. Set the strike temp. Set the power level to 100%… and the fan started making terrible noises.
Brew-day is postponed; sad-face emoji.
I tried to get it to work a few times, and I even let it run a bit to see if it would power through, but nope, it’s sounds like it’ll burn up.
I called Anvil, but they’re East Coast, so it was too late to talk to anyone. A search of the Internets didn’t provide anything useful, so I emailed Anvil.
Now I wait, because the Foundry is expensive, and I figure I should at least give them a day to get back to me before I take it apart and start poking around its guts.
My yeast will be okay on the spin plate for a while longer, and worse case, I can put them to sleep in the fridge.
It’s a bummer though; I was motivated! I was going to make 2 batches, one today and another tomorrow or Thursday.
Could’ve been worse though; it could’ve died halfway through the brew. I’m hoping Anvil will write back and tell me to give it some oil, easy peasy. We’ll see.
