I plan on brewing this weekend, the first time in a long, long time. I’m going to make an IPA using the Anvil Foundry 10 1/2 gallon all-in-one.
My yeast, White Labs California Ale (WLP001), was best by March 31st, but I’m hopeful a good starter will get it back into fighting shape. My hops should all be good, but I am a little worried that my grains are on the old side. We’ll see what happens.
Oh yeah, this is also only my second time using the Foundry. I’ll be re-watching Brian’s video from Short Circuited Brewers on YouTube to get ready. No fault of Brian’s or the Foundry, but my first attempt was a disaster.
I think I have the ingredients to make my Clone Ranger IPA, which is a version of New Belgium‘s Ranger IPA. Ranger IPA–the original–was my favorite go-to beer; I’m not a fan of any of their Voodoo Ranger series so far. I’ve written to New Belgium and whined about their decision to retire my beer, but so far, they haven’t changed their minds. Doesn’t matter, once I fine-tune this recipe, I won’t need them OR THEIR BEER!
So, yeah, I’ve got the ingredients, including my water, and Brian will walk me through using the Foundry again. I just need to get the starter going and modify my brew-day checklist for an all-in-one vessel.
And… I might need to organize the garage.
